What we defend
Drug charge defense
Most drug cases turn on the search. Before we ask what was found, we ask how the police came to be looking.

The search
Whether there was a warrant, consent or a lawful reason, and whether the search went past it.
Who it belonged to
In a shared car or apartment, the state has to tie the drugs to you, not just to the room.
The lab
How the substance was weighed and tested, and whether the chain of custody holds up.
Diversion
Treatment and diversion programs that can end with the charge dismissed, where you qualify.
Questions
What people ask us about drug charges
They found it in my friend's car. Can I still be charged?
Yes, but being near something isn't the same as possessing it. The state has to show you knew it was there and had control over it, and that is often where these cases are won or lost.
Is diversion an admission of guilt?
It depends on the program. Some require a plea that is set aside when you finish; others don't. We explain exactly what you'd be agreeing to before you sign anything.
Can a drug charge affect my student aid or my job?
It can. Tell us about school, work and any professional license early, so that the way the case resolves protects them as well as it can.
Tell us where your case stands
Have the citation or release papers in front of you when you call. We'll tell you the next date and what has to happen before it.
